I chose to create a poster focused on the Trade Gothic because I wanted to gain appreciation for a typeface that I didn't necessarily love previously. I now feel like I understand its place in the world of design, and I'm excited to find fitting places for it in future projects.

I think my favorite glyph in the Trade Gothic Next typeface is the "R". The idea behind my poster was to take a really nicely weighted typeface (it has wonderful legibility for how narrow it is) and put a focus on individual letters. "TRADE GOTHIC NEXT" is treated as if it were monospace. This only works because of the slanted boxes each of the letters is housed. in. The degree that the boxes are slanted at is meant to be perfectly parallel with the slant of the Semibold Italics that the type is set in.
